31st October 2007
We are pleased to be able to tell you all that Marcy is now fully recovered and back to his old, extremely lovable and very playful self. It was a worrying time with a happy ending. We are also pleased to report that our entire “Zoo” are all well.
Obviously being fully committed to Animal Welfare Of Luxor - AWOL which continues to go from strength to strength we spend much of our time helping the animals and have really enjoyed meeting so many nice people during the month. Please Click Here for a newsletter page all about AWOL and do have a look at the AWOL web site as the monthly newsletter there will fill you in with more of what we have been doing throughout October.
We had a super day at Deir El Medina - the workers village. We visited the three tombs there, walked around the remains of the village and spent much time at the temple. It was the third week of Ramadan and there was nobody there apart from a few resting guards so it was lovely to be able to look around unhindered and soak up the most wonderful atmosphere. We really are lucky to be able to live somewhere that is just so special. Ramadan came to an end and everybody enjoyed the 3 day feast of Eid.
At the villa we have had a problem with a cobra that refuses to go away. Normally snakes come and a few barks of Tufty and Marcy and they are gone not to be seen again but this one returns every evening and moves through the plants. One night we saw it and it looks to be about 4 feet long but it has evaded capture so far. We frequently have snakes at the villa and Am Said catches on average one a month whilst the others just pass through. A while ago Harry was asleep on the bottom step at the front of the villla when a snake slithered by and several times the dogs have cornered one. Pauline used to be afraid of snakes (she still doesn't like them) but when we hear the dogs barking at a snake we go out, pick up a dog each and carry them into the villa so the snake can go on its way. Early in the month just after we had gone to bed the dogs both went crazy so we thought it was the snake back again only to be surprised that they had backed a medium sized scorpion into a corner so we had no option but to kill the scorpion as these are much more worrying to us (and Egyptians in general) than snakes are.
If you would like to meet up when you come over we would love see you. Click Here for a page you can print off with our contact details and where you can meet us. If you have any room in your case and could bring some Homepride Curry Sauce (it comes in tins and we will of course pay you for it) as apart from this with what we have received recently and what is on the way to Luxor we will actually be fully stocked. What joy, thank you all.
