Looking back at February 2010

On the 14th February we celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary and both reflected on just how wonderful our life is together and just how lucky we are to be living in Luxor. We spent the day at home with Scrabble and a Pizza Hut pizza outside on the “D”.

As our friends know we are not great lovers of football but Egypt in the Africa cup was great and to win the tournament was even better. The celebrations went on all night and they celebrated like only Egyptians can, lots of noise, good humour and a great time was had by all.

Our motorcycle battery died so Graham went to get a replacement and at the same time change an indicator which came off worst after an encounter with a ram that decided to head butt the motorcycle but it is funny, that after all this time of Living in Luxor, that sometimes we still can’t believe what we hear. Graham asked for a new indicator and one was brought out. A complete unit including fixing bracket and wiring and he asked for seven and a half Egyptian pounds (less than £1) including fitting. Three times Graham asked the price because he just couldn't believe it but once he did he thought blow the expense and changed both the rear indicators. A new higher power battery was fitted with a new retaining strap and new connections as the old ones were corroded. This along with the indicators and several small things that were fixed and the total bill came to less than £10. Wow!!!!!

It was lovely to have Mum and Dad return for their 8th time to Luxor and they were duly put to work stuffing donkey cushions and trimming and burning the ends of the donkey head collars. We did however have a very special day visiting the newly opened to the public home of Howard Carter, the archeologist that discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun (as if you didn't know) followed by a late lunch at Africa restaurant. Both well worth a visit when you are here and we look forward to visiting again with Jan when she is here in a few weeks.

Like January it has been a very busy month with not only mum and dad here but it has been great to have old friends Simon and Chantal back and Kate for a fleeting visit. Lovely to meet up with Sabine who has been so busy recently and we look forward to meeting her again with her sister in the next couple of weeks. Not just old friends but new ones as Juliet returned with her daughter Haley who we met for the first time and also Bev and Cynthia who all fitted in so well it was like we have known them for years.

If you would like to meet up when you come over then do Click Here and print off the page which has our phone numbers and also details of where we can meet. If you have a corner spare in your suitcase please Click Here to see a few items that we would love you to bring over.
