Even though every
year more tractors are being used this traditional way of
ploughing the fields is still a common site throughout El
Marise and around Luxor in general. |
|
|
The sheik festival on the west bank of
Luxor is quite a spectacle. It occurs once a year for three
days and is a wonderful show of horsemanship. One day Pauline
went on her own and another Pauline, Sabine, Ingrid and Graham
all went. These horses are the best of the best. |
|
|
This picture was taken on the second day
of the festival which takes place in the two hours before
sunset so it doesn't affect our work in El Marise at all. |
|
|
Right in the middle of the old town this
owner stops for a chat in the full sun. It is a much easier
day for him rather than his donkey. |
|
|
Sabine took some protruding nails out of
the wooden bridge that goes over the donkey's back when it
pulls the cart and has now put an AWOL pressure pad underneath
it. We just had to finish replacing the old rough rope that
was also much too short with wide webbing around the rear
of the donkey and it could be on its way. |
|
|
After a hard day it's off to replenish
our supplies. The webbing goes very quickly and even though
we buy it regularly we still have to go through the same haggle
over the price every time. |
