The month started well for the animals of the west bank of Luxor with AWOL supporter Judi Grossman and friends raising much needed funds with a sponsored walk and an already good month continued to improve as it went along.
AWOL supporter and good friend Tony gave up his entire 2 week holiday because when he wasn't out working with the animals he was helping us sew head collars. It was also wonderful for us in Luxor to have AWOL UK Managing Trustee, Jan and her daughter, Amy, on holiday here so we were able to complete much of the required paperwork as well as get out with the animals. At the same time Alison, a good friend and supporter arrived and even took head collars back to her hotel to sew. All the help allowed AWOL to change well over 50 bad head collars in just one week. We have wonderful supporters who ALL take nothing from AWOL but give their time freely, thank you one and all.
More and more people are bringing their animals to us for help and advice and Dr Mustafa is excellent. Though based in Gebble which is on the east bank of Luxor and a long way from El Marise he is committed to helping the poor people of the community with their animals and we are so appreciative that he so actively supports the good we are doing and comes out with us whenever he can. He makes no charge to AWOL or to any of the owners for any treatment he gives when out with us. Dr Bassim has gone to work in Qatar for 3 months. We look forward to his return.
Don't forget to book your tickets now for the AWOL Summer Ball at Middleton Hall, near Tamworth in Staffordshire, as it is really going to be a great evening and one that we hope will turn into an annual AWOL event.
We are expecting to have a well known sporting guest speaker but are awaiting confirmation but we do have everything in place for you to have a really great time. Our flyer says Hot and Cold Buffet but this definitely does not do justice to the quality of the meal as the hot buffet for the main course is accompanied by hot
home made rustic breads served with olive oil/balsamic vinegar and followed by home-made desserts such as pavlova
with fresh fruit, homemade cheesecakes, etc. There is also a charity raffle, plenty of parking, reasonably priced bar (and soft drinks for drivers) and a great chance to meet up with like minded people and new friends from all around the country. There will be several very nice surprises throughout the evening.
Please become part of the team.
